Unit 4 - Late Middle Ages


Mint: It is the place where the coins are made.

Promissory Note: A document assigned to a particular person in place of money.

Loan: Money a banker lends you in exchange of the same amount of money plus interests.

Guild: Association of craftworkers which had the same skill or trade, and which controlled the manufacture and sale of crafts products.

Cortes: Representative assembly, consisting of members of the nobility, clergy and inhabitants of the cities, summoned by a king who would ask them for taxes, recruitment of troops, etc.

Magna Carta: A document signed in 1215 by King John of England that gave certain political and legal rights to some nobles, clergy and bourgeoisie.

Western Schism: It was a division in the Catholic Church at the end of the 14th century. There were three Popes at the same time.
